The Fractional CMO Model
Copilot Training
Working Together
A Fractional CMO is a senior marketing executive who works with your firm part time rather than joining it as a full-time employee. You get the same strategic judgment and accountability as an in-house hire, without carrying a full-time salary for a role that doesn't need five days a week.
An agency gives you a team and a monthly report, and someone at your firm still has to manage the relationship and connect the work to the business. A full-time hire gives marketing a permanent home, but costs a full salary whether the month is busy or quiet, plus another employee to manage. I work as one senior leader who sets the direction, does the work, and is accountable for whether it moves the needle.
Most firms hire me instead of an agency, not alongside one. Because I set the strategy and do the work myself, there's no handoff and no outside team for a partner to supervise. And if we decide to use a vendor for design or website, for example, I manage the relationship and work.
Scope varies by firm, so there's no set number. The useful comparison is what each model includes. A full-time hire brings dedicated capacity and a full compensation package, year-round, whether the month is heavy or light. An agency retainer brings a team, often with junior-level execution and limited senior input. A freelance writer can produce content, but won't set strategy or manage priorities.A Fractional CMO gives you senior-level strategy and hands-on execution in one person, without the overhead of a hire or the handoff gaps of an agency. Book a call and I can give you a clearer sense of what that looks like for your firm.
